War Against Hunger!

Hello, I'm Brandon Emmitt a small black business owner of Emmitt's Catering. I have been serving Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas area since 2014.

We are putting together a team as the holidays approach to feed and give to the families that are in need.

(Here's the problem)

How many people are hungry in Texas?

In Texas, 3,720,710 people are facing hunger - and of them 1,395,890 are children. face hunger. 1 in 5 children faces hunger. People facing hunger in Texas are estimated to report needing $1,651,298,000 more per year to meet their food needs.

How many people are hungry in Dallas?

According to the annual Point in Time Homeless Count, led by our partners at Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance, in February 2022: 4,570 people were experiencing homelessness in Dallas and Collin Counties.

How many people in Dallas are food insecure?

“Texas is one of the most severely affected states during the pandemic, with more than 1 in 4 households (26.8%) estimated to be food insecure at some point since March 2020,” said senior author Sandi L.

4 million individuals!

In Texas, 13% of Texas households — 1 in 8 Texans — experience food insecurity. That's 1.4 million Texas households and nearly 4 million individuals. Texas is one of just 9 states with higher food insecurity than the national average.

Why is there hunger in Texas?

Rural families often face higher rates of hunger because of the unique challenges of living remotely. These challenges include poor geographic access to healthy food, limited or unreliable job opportunities, and high rates of un- and under-employment. Addressing hunger in rural areas is a unique challenge.

What is a critical challenge that the food system in Texas may face?

Areas of Concern:

Food production in Central Texas is diminishing rapidly as farmland is lost to development, farmers age and leave the workforce, and farm labor income remains below the poverty level.

Will food shortages get worse?

The executive director of the World Food Program says the global food crisis stands to get even worse in 2023 because of possible reductions in farm production due to shortages of affordable fertilizer.

(Taking action)

It brakes my heart to see many people that are in need. I can't any longer just sit on the sidelines and do nothing. So I'm asking for any kind of donation.

All donations! Will go towards food, toiletries, hygiene products, cold weather clothing, reusable containers, baby supplies, bottled water, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, laundry detergent, etc...

(My goal is to make this a continuous ongoing contribution to our communities, not just a one-time thing).

I'm only limited but with your help, we can do so much more by working together by helping the families that are in need.
