Ziva Needs Hip Surgery

Ziva came to me at 3 weeks old, her mother had been hit by a car and she was found still nursing on her deceased mother. I bottle fed her and she grew big and strong into the loving, hyper active, crazy girl we know today. Ziva was diagnosed with hip dysplasia at 4 years old after we noticed she walks with a skip in her step. At that time, it was mild enough that managing any discomfort with medication was preferable to an invasive surgery. Unfortunately hip dysplasia is a degenerative disease, meaning it gets worse as time passes. Outwardly you could not see much difference but it seems that as she aged her hips continued to decline. Last week I was weeding the yard and the dogs were playing as I did so. Ziva has always loved her tennis ball so I was throwing it in between pulling weeds. On the last throw Ziva jumped for the ball and her leg dislocated. We sought immediate emergency care and were able to x-ray to confirm that her hip had indeed dislocated and the vet attempted to pop the joint back into place. They advised us that at that time, should her hip dislocate again, surgery would be our only option. Her hip joints are too worn down to continue to pop it in and out. Unfortunately this morning her hip joint has once again dislocated. We are now facing FHO surgery as our only option for her. Our vet is willing to do a learning surgery in which a vet who has not done an FHO but wants to learn how will be the lead surgeon on her surgery which will help shave off some of the cost. With the learning surgery, we are still looking at a $1700 bill. This of course comes right after her initial visit which came to $1100. Our little family needs the help to get this surgery for our sweet girl as soon as possible. I am only working about 25 hours a week currently as I’ve had my own physical and mental health struggles over the last year. Any help is so heavily appreciated and we are so thankful for our community of those willing to help us at this time.
