Zimmer Family Medical Expenses

Jesse Zimmer was involved in a tragic work-related incident on November 8th, 2017.  Jesse was working in Durham, NC as a superintendent for a plumbing project on a multi-million dollar project.  Jesse loves his job and he was so proud to have his own crew.  Jesse is *the guy* that gives his all to every single aspect of his life.  He was proud of a hard day of work and he was oblivious to what would happen shortly after.  He stopped to use the restroom in a porta john before leaving for the day and a piece of angle iron (imagine the equivalent of a steel beam weighing around 200lbs) fell *five* stories crashing through the roof of the porta john he was occupying.

Jesse received a direct hit to the head and his hard hat was cracked in 3 places.  His co-worker and friend was there when it happened and opened the door to see Jesse's body crumpled in half and he was not breathing.  His friend administered CPR and the fact that Duke Hospital was only 2.5 miles away was a blessing.

The surgeons at Duke were reluctant to treat his catastrophic brain injury, but he moved his arm, and the surgical team was given hope and moved forward with treatment.  Jesse has been in a coma since his accident.  He had portions of his skull removed and he is being supported currently by a feeding tube and trach tube.  There has not been much progress, but a few days ago his medical team started to see a glimmer of hope.  Jesse is still in there, our Jesse.  He is starting to show facial expressions and grimace when in pain.  He weeps when the doctors talk to him about his condition or when loved ones speak to him.

Sheperd Center (an infamous rehab center for patients with serious brain injuries) graciously decided to take Jesse as a patient.  This is exactly where you want a loved one to be in his situation, but it is located in Atlanta, GA (6.5 hours away from all of his family and friends).

His mother has been at his side since this happened, but this has been at her own expense.  She is a recent widow and this is a tremendous financial burden for her.  Jesse needs his family by his side for encouragement and this has been devastating to them in every way.  He is a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend.

Please, lets help this family!  Any donations given to the Zimmer family will go to support his care and help his family be able to be there for him by providing gas money, hotel rooms, food, loss of wages etc...

We belong to each other and right now Jesse and his family need our prayers and love, but also financial support.  This is a dire need.

The best chance for Jesse's recovery is the encouragment of having family near as he fights this enormous fight.  We can make that happen.  Every little bit will help.

We love you, Zimmer Family!
