Montana is a 3 year old yellow lab, my wife and I's first fur baby together. He is the most energetic, loving, and dependable dog we could have asked for. Twenty months ago he got a baby brother named Oliver, my wife and I's first child. Montana has turned into the best protector and big furry brother Oliver could ask for.
Over the summer Montana started limping so we took him into our local vet. They said he showed signs of a slight tear in his rear right ACL. We were instructed to keep him calm and reduce play time to basically nothing so his leg could heal on its own. Montana went the whole summer without chasing a ball or joining us on hikes but unfortunately, that did not do the trick. Three weeks ago, Montana completely tore his ACL in his right leg. Our vet recommended a specialist to take him to for the surgery that he would definitely need. That specialist vet quoted the surgery to be $4,500, with additional ICU charges that would total around $5,000. That is just for ONE leg. While there they also noted that he had a partial ACL tear in his left leg. An appointment was scheduled for October 19th.
On Sunday (10/7), Montana was outside with my son and I and he tried to run but yelped and fell to the ground. He was unable to get up. Since then, Montana has not been able to walk on his own. We have to keep him crated and use a sling under his backside to walk him in and out of the house to use the bathroom. We took him to the vet where it was confirmed that he had torn his left ACL, as well.
This is where we desperately need your help. Montana is going to need 2 back to back ACL surgeries at a total of $10,000. Montana is our first baby and our sons best friend and we want to give him his life back, but we simply cannot afford it. Our son Oliver was born February 2017 and he was 8 weeks early and has had multiple medical issues since. Adding Montana's $10,000 surgery bill on top of the medical debt we are paying off is not feasible.
Asking for help is hard for us, but we are in a situation where we don't have a choice. We want Montana to live the rest of his life running around with Oliver and we want Oliver to experience the love he can feel for man's best friend.
All of the donations will go directly towards both of Montana's ACL surgeries and any leftovers will be donated to our local vet to help other animals in need. We know this is a lot to ask for and are grateful for every dollar donated.
