Such a sad thing, I’ve never once ever thought twice about it until now when my son is coming into this world during a pandemic and the care of my wife and trying to get my little one who is 8 up and ready for school and picking her up from school due to all this corona virus mess... and me being around 100’s of people in the middle of winter /flu season as a elementary school teacher when the baby doesn’t have his first set of shots ... My job provides fmla but no paternal leave .
“The amount of money that fathers get during paternity leave in Virginia is most frequently zero. The state does not have a paid family leave program that covers caregivers. Plus, dads cannot file a disability claim because they remain physically able to work.”
My wife and I took all our saving during the ivf process and it took eveything for us to make it to this point .
“I remember when I couldnt get pregnant and we found out I had no other choice but to do IVF. I looked at my husband and said you deserve to have a wife who can give you a child naturally, just divorce me and find someone else. I hated myself so much that I was willing to give up my marriage and everything we had built so he could find
someone who wasn’t broken. He told me he wasn’t going anywhere and we’d get through this together and if all he could have was Mackenzie and I, he was happy.
Now seeing us smile as the weeks get closer to meeting our son, makes me cry tears of joy because without my husband’s support and love I couldn’t have done countless surgeries and go through IVF. Sometimes we feel so low we need to see our strengths even if that’s just getting out of bed. Your goals will come true, sometimes it just takes a little longer.“ - Jessica
