Serving refugees in Greece

Hi Friends!
My name is Ryan Nicholas. I live in Fairfax, VA, United States. In a few weeks I am taking a trip with some friends to Athens, Greece to work with and serve the refugees from Syria and other nearby countries who are living there. We'll be working with an organization called Open Refuge . One of our primary goals while there is to make friends with refugees, and through this process, identify some of the most vulnerable refugees and help move them out of the under-resourced refugee camps and into sustainable housing.
I know many of you have been following the tragic developments in Syria for some time now, and have been looking for a way to help, but feel helpless. I too felt that way for a long time. The more I read and watched and heard about what was happening to these people, to their homes, to their friends and family, the more helpless I felt. These are mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, teachers, business owners, craftsmen, students, neighbors...just like you and I. It's become arguably the biggest humanitarian crisis of our lifetimes. I knew I had to help. I knew I had to go and hear their stories for myself, and help any way I could.
If you would like to help, I am asking for your donations to help us secure housing, furnishings, medical supplies, etc for refugees. The trip will cost about $3,000 in total. The first $2,000 raised here will go strictly towards helping the refugees. Any amount above that will go towards covering some of my travel/modest lodging expenses (flight already purchased). Of course your donations are NOT going towards any touristy stuff or Mediterranean food I partake in while there. Thank you so much in advance for your donations! I'll be withdrawing them from here and giving directly to OpenRefuge, who will use them for needs we see arise while on the ground in Athens. I promise to give you mulitple updates about the trip and let you know exactly where your dollars went and what individuals and families you are impacting :)
