Stone Somerled is a friend of ours, a student and alumni of IPSB at LEI. His humor and heart are integral aspects of every interaction with him.
In August of this year, Stone had a cardiac event that caused him to flatline, requiring resusitation and the implant of a pace maker. After getting him out of immediate danger the doctors went searching for the reason a fairly young, to all appearances healthy man would suddenly have such extreme issues. What they found was that he had an extremely rare disease called Amyloidosis. In his case, it was attacking his heart.
"Leave it to me to get a super rare disease that attacks the heart." - Stone
Because of how rare this is there are limited resources for research, care and treatement. Luckly, Stone lives near one of the few hospitals studying this. He is currently going through Chemotherapy to inhibit the Amyloidosis. Since his heart isn't working well he is having issues with swelling and has needed repeated stays int he hospital to drain fluid from his lungs.
He's in good spirits, focusing on staying positive despite, as he puts it, dying once already. He has a lot to live for, his brother and partner have been steady support and his daughter a joy he is staying focused on as he fights to survive this.
Needless to say he isn't working and we are setting this up to reach out to our community of healers, friends, students, and community at large to ask that you send him anything you can. His bills are piling up rapidly, stress and worrying about rent and paying for hospital stays shouldn't be a focus for him right now. Having gone through dealing with catastrophic illness in our family I can tell you it helps lower stress levels immensely to know that there is a tribe out there looking out for you.
If you have time, please visit, keep in mind the following:
- he is recieving chemo so will be immuno-compromised, if you are not 100% healthy, wear a mask, wash your hands or pick another time to see him
- he loves company but is low energy, keep the visits short so he can rest when needed
- you can message him via FB if you are unsure where he is (home, hospital, etc) or if it's a good time to visit, company and sending even virtual love helps a lot
