Rally for Randy

Donation protected
It was the week of Christmas last year that my dad was first admitted to the hospital. We weren't sure what was going on but what we did know was that the units of blood in his body was only half of what is should be.  Confused and scared but confident in the fact that what ever it was my dad, Randy, would bounce right back and in record timing, that is really his style. If you know him at all you know he is the strongest person you probably know or will ever meet.  He's a good ol' boy and you can take his word to the bank. His work ethic is beyond most and I thank God that he taught me the value of being a hard worker.

Fast forward to March when we heard that word you never want to hear... Cancer.  Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS)  can progress to a rapidly growing cancer of bone marrow cells called acute myeloid leukemia.  A stem cell or bone marrow transplant is considered the only curative option for patients.

Our donor journey was a roller coaster ride of emotions. Knowing that he had to have a transplant by the end of summer we kept our faith in God and waited for his perfect timing to prevail. A 28 year old man from Germany saved my Dad's life in September! We will never know his name or be able to thank him in person but we will pray for him everyday for the rest of our lives for sure!

During this time my dad wasn't able to work and had to be  put on short term disability.  He worked for an amazing company for 30 years that provided him with really exceptional medical insurance. The journay so far was one that you never want to go on but  if you do, to not have to stress over health insurance is a blessing.

My dad is on the very long road to recovery now. After his 1 month stay in the hospital, him and my mom have moved into hospital housing right next to the hospital. He was told he would need a full year to recover and wouldnt be able to work. His short term disability is now turned into long term disability forcing him at 59 to retire.  With this his income is going down and the cost of his insurance is going up.  To keep his amazing insurance he will have to now pay the COBRA premiums.

This is where we need your help.  I would LOVE to be able to pay my dad's insurance for the whole year he is in recovery. As well as help to pay for hospital housing that wasn't covered under insurance and to also help them with the unpaid time off my mom has had to take.

You would be blessing our family beyond words with your donation big or small.
