MandaLao Elephant Welfare Drive

As COVID-19 continues to rattle the world, affecting all of our lives, elephants living in captivity are in an unfortunate and unfair position. These wild animals did not ask to be under the care of humans and have no means to care for themselves in their current environment. Many elephants living in captivity are unfit, both physically and mentally, for reintroduction to the wild. As such, tourism, when done correctly and ethically, can provide them with dignified and happy lives.

The truth is, it costs an enormous amount of money to care for these animals in the right way. Without tourists to generate revenue, the expenses associated with caring for elephants remain, including food, health care, salary for mahouts (elephant caretakers), and land for them to roam. It's frightening to realize none of us know when this pandemic will end and how it will change travel forever. We are asking for $20,000 to help support our operations in the coming months. Our 13 elephants can't begin to thank you enough for your support and helping to make sure they are cared for and loved.
