My name is Abdel Rahman Saafan, I am an Imam and tutoring teacher in Santa Clara, California. I am reaching out for your support to help me and my wife, as she is suffering from many ailments that require immediate attention. She has very serious damage to her liver from Hepatitis C, for which she requires a transplant. As some of you might be able to read from the doctor’s note I posted above (in Arabic) concerning the liver condition, just the preparation and surgery costs are around $6300. And considering this quote is from 2012, it is much higher now due to the volatile situation back home (Egypt). She also has to take medication to stabilize her liver, kidney, and general health (including a diabetes condition), which costs around $310/month (for prescription medicine).
Other than that, just the doctor visits and consultations, blood tests, and X-rays amount to another $300/month. And there are many recurring emergencies as her condition fluctuates unpredictably. For example, just recently last month, she missed her prescription medicine for just one night, causing her to faint and temporarily lose recognition of her family members. The resulting hospital stay, along with blood tests and temporary prescription medicine cost $600 for just this one incident.
As most of my income comes from tutoring, I do not have a stable enough income to bare these expenses alone. Along with these expenses, I have to support my 5 kids (3 of whom are attending colleges in Egypt), my mother (who’s health is also deteriorating and she requires constant medical attention), and my younger sister (whose husband passed away and she is struggling with 5 children, 2 of them in college).
Due to this ongoing situation, I have also fallen into a state of debt, with the current amount at $34000, and growing. Part of this is owed to the banks, while the rest are from kind people like you.
As many of you may know, the current situation in Egypt, what with the coup and the uprising, is very volatile and cost of living is very high (increasing month by month).
Given these conditions, I request that you please help in whatever way you can. And if you have any questions, I am more than happy to respond your inquiries.
