Zackreyʻs Journey - Bone Marrow Transplant

At the age of 9, Zackrey was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in 2013. After 2 years of chemotherapy treatments, his leukemia relapsed in 2015.
The Lucas ʻohana then relocated from Kauaʻi to Oʻahu to focus on Zackʻs journey to recovery. The new protocol of treatment required radiation and a more intense chemotherapy plan, which resulted in neurotoxicity damage to Zackʻs spinal cord. This left him with nerve damage and limited mobility, with the uncertainty of ever being able to walk again.
Through perseverance and faith, Zack was determined to walk again. With the help of P.T. and prayers, he slowly gained his strength and mobility back.
In 2018, Zackrey relapsed a second time. Doctors advised that if treatment was not started immediately, Zack would only have a few months to survive.
The Lucas ʻohana was advised that Zack was a candidate for immunotherapy stem cell transplant. They left Hawaiʻi for Seattle where they would seek treatment for the next 2 months at Seattle Childrenʻs Hospital.
Upon return, the doctors extended plan now includes a bone marrow transplant as a preventative measure to decrease the chance of relapse.
For the next 4-5 months, Zackrey will receive care at the Seattle Childrens Hospital. Both Zackreyʻs parents, John and Leticia, will be with him to support him on his journey to recovery.
Funding will help support expenses which fall outside the standard protocol paid for by insurance and supplement their income while they stay by Zackʻs side during the most critical phase of treatment.
The Lucas ʻohana are facing one of the hardest challenges imaginable and they need your support. The year ahead will have many trials, including financial.
