Help Our Family Heal

On Saturday, September 4th 2021, our family was attacked at our home in Shelby Township by a deranged ex-partner of one of my siblings. Myself (on the far left) and my sister (in the middle) were both home when at one moment we realized the door of our apartment had been set on fire, and when I ran to the balcony to retrieve my phone and yell for help, the attacker was waiting in a stolen vehicle on the street below. From there he shot me twice in my midsection and I spent the next 10 days fighting for my life and recovering in the hospital.

Our assaulter was arrested the following day, and our family spent the following week staying in hotels and with other family members while we waited on our apartment to be repaired. To date, the leasing office had only repaired the patio doors that were shattered, and told us we could move back in although our door remained charred, my blood still stained in the patio wood floor, and debris everywhere. Our family has been cleaning and clearing what we can within our control to make our environment as liveable as possible.

This GoFundMe is to support our family's healing through affording medical costs, ongoing emotional and physical therapy to help us process the trauma we have now survived, and to help us leave this apartment complex altogether for their lack of empathy during this time. Since there isn’t an empty unit to be moved to, we can stay and wait on repairs at their convenience, the only other option we have is to pay rent 3 months in advance, give a 30 day notice and start the hunt again for a new home that fits our needs. Since my sister and I will be permanent residents here for the time being, we also have to pay an additional deposit. This is apparently policy. We’re estimating all of this will cost us approximately $15,000 over the next few months.

We ask our village, friends, family, and caring strangers to please help our family heal and move to a place where we are not haunted by the events of that day. Thank you all well in advance.
