Our good friend Robert Smithers is a kind, genuine man. He is a hard working father to a beautiful eight year old daughter and a caring partner.
On November 1st, 2017 he went to the ER with back pain that he has had on and off for years. This back pain was a ‘normal’ pain and has had it checked on numerous occasions. After a blood transfusion and many tests including a painful bone marrow biopsy he was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a bone cancer. There were no lumps or discolouration so as you can imagine that this was a huge shock to him and his family.
Multiple Myeloma does not have a cure, but does have treatments that can help ease the pain and help keep it at bay. He started his first set of chemotherapy and radiation within two weeks of his diagnosis. These sets will be every 4 weeks with one week off for the next 6 months. He will be in and out of treatments for the rest of his life.
He has had to take a leave from his job and found out that he doesn’t have short-term or long-term disability with his current benefits. He is concerned on how they are going to manage to survive financially without his income coming into the household. We would like to ask for some financial help for him and his beautiful family to help take some of the stress off.
