Born and raised in Camden County Georgia, Donnie Dixon married the love of his life, Stephanie Garcia, in 1993. Two years later, they started a family beginning with Donovan in 95, Madison in 97, Tori in 2000, and Kamryn in 2005.

They made a wonderful life, working and raising their children. They were active in their community and Donnie’s work as a Commercial Residential and Automotive Tinter was legendary.

Although they loved Camden, they contemplated moving many times over the years with Texas set as their final destination. 2020 seemed to be the right time. The two older kids had left the nest. They had one in high school, and one in college.

They sold their home within weeks of putting on the market and made the move. Donnie found a job within weeks.

Things fell perfectly into place.

But 2020 had other plans.

Stephanie noticed that something wasn’t right.

For about a month, there were signs that were easily dismissed as part of the change to a new location. Donnie’s coloring was ‘off’. There was a subtle yellow tint to his skin. But, maybe it was the glow caused by the Texas summer sun.

Donnie noticed other changes as well.

Upset stomach? “It’s just nerves. We have a lot going on.”

Urinary changes? “I need more water. Better stay hydrated.”

Itching? “Must be a new detergent or a reaction to the water here.”

Color Changed? “Wait ... maybe I am looking a little odd.”

When Stephanie noticed that Donnie’s eyes were looking yellow, too, she became alarmed. Could it be jaundice?

As it happened, Donnie had to undergo pre-employment screening. While doing so, he decided to check into the emergency room to see what else could be going on.

He was there for five days: Wednesday to Monday in August. After a series of tests, he left with a preliminary diagnosis of Ampullary cancer, a rare condition that, with early treatment, has a reasonably high five year survival rate if the tumor does not spread.

And a bill for $100K

On October 6th he underwent the Whipple surgery to remove the cancer and had high hopes that would be all. However, Donnie will begin chemotherapy in a few weeks.

Unfortunately, his time in the hospital is not covered by their insurance, and the Dixons can use all of the financial support they can get. Your donation will go directly to helping with the cost of his hospital stay, and your generosity will allow Donnie to concentrate on getting better.
