Hi, I'm Juliana Zukerman and I am a high school senior. Being that I just started senior year, I thought I was incredibly stressed. Applying to colleges, writing essays, doing sports, all while keeping up my grades in school. However, I have realized that no matter how bad my day is, it was nowhere near as stressful as I've made it seem. That is why I have decided to use my voice and spread awareness about the devastation and stress that results from natural disasters.
Not too long ago, Sandy hit multiple parts around the world leaving almost 42 billion dollars of destruction. However, many citizens took initiative and helped those affected by the storm to get back on their feet. In comparison, Hurricane Harvey resulted in about 180 billion dollars worth of damage-- and people are in a very desperate situation. Although I understand that my goal will barely make a dent in the 180 billion, my mother has always said to me that "every act of kindness counts, no matter how small", and those are words I will never stop living by.
With the money I raise, I hope to help spread the word about these disasters and make it easier for people to change others lives. If you decide to donate, your money will not only be going to parents in desperate need of help, but I believe the children of these families need special attention as well. In addition, thanks to Jennifer Monness, I am able to use her not-for-profit organization-- The Rivertown Heroes-- to receive and manage our funds. This also makes your donations 100% tax deductible!!
Furthermore, in school, I am starting a club based off of this organization; although all of the money will go towards victims of natural disasters, we will use at least 25% of the money to buy and send gifts to children of all ages that have gone through horrendous situations like this one. Likewise, the holidays are right around the corner, but instead of worrying about presents, all these people are thinking about is how they can get their lives back on track. That is why it is crucial to help now. Sending packages with goods to these families is a way to do something more personal than simply giving money; however, all you have to do is donate and we will cover the rest.
In addition to Harvey, Hurricane Irma is right around the corner and is believed to be as-- if not more-- destructive than Harvey. I am praying this isn't true, however, there is no harm in getting a head start.
