Meg's Fight

Donation protected
This GoFundMe is raising money in support of Megan Knoernschild and her family.
Saturday March 11th, Shannon and Dave received a call that shattered their world.  Their daughter Megan was in a terrible ski accident.

The day that started out with great anticipation with her Garfield High School friends, ended in great tragedy.  No one wants to get this call and no one is ever prepared for that news. While skiing in the Terrain Park at Stevens Pass, Megan went off a ski jump.  This turned out to be the last time she would get up on her own, that day.

The ski patrol was called and the long journey to Seattle began in an ambulance. The MRI concluded broken lower vertebrae and incomplete spinal cord injury.  She was rushed into surgery.  Megan was stabilized and they waited.

Megan has spent one week in the ICU at Harborview and waiting has been excruciating for Shannon, Dave, Ella and all who love Megan deeply.   Megan cannot feel her legs from the knee down but daily there are signs of hope that this may not be a forever injury.

Megan was transferred March 17th to Seattle Children’s where she will begin a rigorous therapy program. She is a fighter and has set her goal of finishing her senior year at Garfield High School.  An excellent student, Megan is now receiving acceptance letters from several universities she dreams of attending.  University of Washington was the first and they would be lucky to get this girl as their student.

Megan’s sister Ella, a Sophomore at Ballard High School is devoted to being by Megan’s side and fighting this united battle. Her mother, Shannon is a Seattle native and graduate of St. Benedict’s Parish and Blanchet High School. David came to the Northwest from Cedar Rapids, Iowa during college. The Knoernschild’s planted roots in Ballard to raise their family and are vibrant members of the community. Megan is their first born and they are devastated for what she must fight during the prime of her life. Their bright star and baby girl needs our help.

No one can imagine what the Knoerschild (Copeland) family is going through.  So many people have rallied around them and asked what they can do to help.  What we can do is relieve some of the stress of upcoming medical bills and extensive rehabilitation.

The Knoerschild’s (Copeland’s) are a special family.  This family loves each other unconditionally and will fight for each other fiercely and they are deeply loved by their community and dear friends.

Please share this campaign far and wide and give generously so that Megan knows the army   that fights alongside of her. Updates on Megan’s progress will be made on this site.
