Local Veteran & Wife Need Help!

Donation protected
When one of your clients takes it upon themselves to be a Good Neighbor, you can’t help but get inspired to help her on her cause. Nicole is that neighbor who is aware of her community and after recently relocating to the area and months of driving by a home that looked in disarray, she started asking questions. Who lives there, why is there trash everywhere, do the people living there need help? Those questions prompted another one of her neighbors, Jen, to pause and ultimately join Nicole’s mission in finding out about the couple who lives in the home and how they could potentially help.

Nicole & Jen knocked on the door and behind it discovered the nicest elderly couple, Mary - a retired hairstylist & Ron - a US Army Veteran, both with severe health problems, but the sweetest hearts. Nicole & Jen were welcomed in the home and discovered the most unsanitary health conditions imaginable. Mary & Ron barely have enough money to put food on the table, so one thing they haven’t been able to afford is trash service. It’s part of the reason there was so much trash in the yard. No available trash pick up + no way to get the trash to the dump = trash piling up. The yard was filled and the house was at a critical level. The interior of the home is so bad, it was evident at first sight professionals were needed to properly do the job.

After meeting Mary & Ron, Nicole & Jen couldn’t stop thinking about what they could do to help this couple. So they started where they could make the most impact, in the quickest amount of time and reached out to the neighbors in their subdivision to see who’d be willing to help them clean up Mary & Ron’s yard. Their neighborhood stepped up and worked along side the couple cleaning up the front yard one afternoon in November. They were so incredibly grateful & have been managing to keep the yard clean.

Nicole & Jen couldn’t stop at just the yard, they have been bound and determined ever since to find a way to help Mary & Ron. They stop in regularly to check in on them and make sure they’re doing ok. Mary recently went in the hospital for the 3rd time in one week. Ron desperately needs knee surgery, but it’s on hold because he can’t return home after the surgery due to the state of the house. So this is now mission critical. It will cost approximately $4,000 to get Mary & Ron’s home professionally cleaned out and in a habitable state, as well as provide them with trash service for a year to prevent the yard & home returning to it’s current condition.

Watching what Nicole & Jen have accomplished with Mary & Ron is inspiring to us at the Douglas Realty Group and we want to help Nicole & Jen finish the mission they started on months ago. We all run through our lives and tend to focus on what’s right in front of us and we don’t look in our peripherals to see those in need around us. It’s because these two special ladies stopped & asked a question that I know this couple will get the help they need. If you are inspired by these ladies or just can’t let one of our Veterans go without getting the care he needs, please donate what you can. No amount is too small & will be going straight to getting this local couple get the help they desperately need. Thank you!
