Kidney Transplant Surgery

My name is Yvette and I am asking for your help.  I come from a family of 6 girls and 3 boys of which I am the youngest.

The reason why I’m telling my story is because I am 1 of 5 of my siblings that has had the unfortunate luck of inheriting, autosomal polycystic kidney disease.  A disease we inherited from our father. I am presently in Stage 5 renal failure and in desperate need of your help!

Our father had been on dialysis(which he did at home himself) for about 12 years of which the doctors and nurses at St. Lukes Hospital called him their “miracle patient” because he never got an infection or had any problems during that time. He passed away in 1985 at the age of 68 from complications of the heart.  (Huge heartbreak for us all 30+ years later, I still miss him!)

Next, my dear mother, lived a great life and took excellent care of us all.  She was a true one man woman. She never remarried or even thought of it. She loved my father til the end.  She too passed away years later in 2006 She was diagnosed with liver cancer in 2002. As you may know, another great pain for us to endure!

Next, my siblings:

There were 9 of us.  My brothers were all awesome.  They too took care of us as the men in the house.  They are now all three diseased. One of them died of pancreatic cancer, one died after having a neck surgery and choking on a piece of food and the third one although he had the kidney disease and had the good luck of receiving a successful kidney transplant, he passed away of complications from COPD on July 10, 2016. The day after his 64th birthday.  He passed away 2 weeks after my sister! That sister was also lucky enough to have had a successful transplant! God is good! But she too passed due to other complications at the age of 71 on June 25, 2016. Talk about pain, sorrow, hurt and anger, it is more than anyone should have to deal with. We didn't get a chance to mourn one of them imagine 2!!  I have to stay positive and believe that things happen for a reason. Although very hard to understand at times.

Now here I am.  I am the proud mother of three of my own children, all male.  One just turned 30 and identicals twins that are 28y. The twins also have this kidney disease but as of yet are doing fine.  They say the disease hits later in life. I pray they find a cure! I have 3 awesome grandkids 3, 5, and a 9y. There is no greater love! I’ve been blessed with a great family!

Besides my kidney problem, I will tell you a little about me.  I am 56y. I am presently working full time in New York City as a Patient Service Coordinator at a High School.  I have only been at this job for 6 months. I am in need of assistance because I do not qualify for any disability benefits due to the short time employed with them.  I do not qualify for FMLA have not accrued any vacation, sick or personal days. Therefore, during the time that I will be out of work (8 to 12 weeks), I will not be paid.  This will make it very difficult for me during this time to pay for any medical bills not covered by insurance, medications before during and after procedure and my household bills. (rent, etc). I am a single woman trying to make it in a world that does not make it easy.

There is in all the sadness that has taken place in my life, a few good things, my children, grandchildren and my best friend who has been in my life for 21 years now. His name is George. He is 47y young and has been the glue that has kept me together throughout the years.  He lives in Florida and I don’t know where I’d be without his love and support. His friendship means the world to me. He is a wonderful, selfless human being and I appreciate him and thank God for putting him in my path. He has offered to donate a kidney to me and he has been tested and is my match!  Woohoo I am so grateful for him!

He is another reason why I am asking for help.  He works for a company that does not offer medical benefits, or disability or anything and he cannot afford to purchase any.  He will need to travel between New York and Florida for the procedure and he will need medication during and after the procedure.  He will also be out of work without pay for the duration which will be for about 4 to 6 weeks, therefore needing help with his household bills too (rent, utilities etc).  As he is doing such a wonderful, selfless thing for me, the most I can do is include his needs in this plea.

Finally, I want to thank you for taking the time to read my story and I hope you can help us reach this goal.   My family and I thank you in advance!
