We are incredibly thankful for the outpouring of love and support given to the Driscoll family during the past two weeks. Many know that in the past two weeks Amelia (age 12) suffered two bleeding strokes due to ruptures of her AVM (brain vessel malformation) resulting in critical care at Boston Childrens Hospital. Amelia has withstood multiple full day brain surgical procedures including one incredibly complex 15 hour surgery where doctors opened her brain to remove as much of her AVM as possible. This is a surgery rarely performed anywhere in the world and was incredibly risky and complex given the AVM location deep in her brain above the brainstem. Amelia has made it successfully — amazingly (!!) — through the surgery, and at this time is still without movement in her left side and has vision loss. The road to stroke recovery may be long and will require lengthy hospital and rehabilitation stays. This can take many months or even longer. It is likely that her parents may need to take substantial (unpaid) time off from work to support this. At this time, it is unclear how much mobility Amelia will regain in her left side body - leg and arm. It is possible that the family may need to retrofit their home to support her if she remains wheelchair-bound. Many have asked how they can be of help to Amelia, her parents Meighan and Tim and her two sisters Madeleine and Nora. 

Through this GoFund Me we wanted to create an opportunity for anyone that may be willing to help offset the innumerable financial considerations (unpaid time off work, medical expenses, gas, meals for the family, parking etc.) related to ongoing care for Amelia now and in the months ahead.
