University Tuition Fees and Accommodation

My name is Valentine, I am currently a PhD student residing in the UK. After so many weeks of thinking and discussing with my best friend, Daniel (whom the fundraising is for), we decided to give this a shot.

 

My best friend (guy on the profile photo) and I grew up together in Nigeria before I left for the UK. We finished high school one year apart. I, in the UK and him in Nigeria. I went on to go to college and then to University to study for my Bachelor's degree, Masters and now my PhD.

However, he had been slightly unlucky in the sense that he wasn't able to gain any admission into any of the public Universities in Nigeria. Not because he fell short of good grades, but because he could not afford the money often requested for bribing officials in order to gain admission into the respective universities he applied to. After 7 years of trying and much encouragement from everyone around, he finally gained admission last year (April, 2021) into the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), a member of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASSU).

 

Anyone familiar with Nigerian universities especially those ASUU member universities would be familiar with their never-ending strike which often last for months on end. Unfortunately for him, after completing his first semester, a new strike started which is now in its 4th month as of today (05.06.2002). Given that his course is for 5 years and the high frequency of strikes, he potentially will complete his undergraduate degree in the next 8-9 years. Taken together, he would have spent 15 to 16 years to obtain a bachelors degree, that is 4-5 undergraduate degree in an European university for the same length of time.

 

My hope is to raise the target amount of £5350 to fund his 4 years of his undergraduate computer science  degree at a private university in Nigeria where he can complete his programme in a timely manner, and obtain a better quality education which is the least he desires for someone who is dedicated this much time in trying to educate a himself.

My hope is for him to transfer to a private university and the funds raised (target amount of £5350) would allow him to pursue a  4 year undergraduate degree in computer science in a timely manner, and obtain a better quality education, which is the least he deserves for someone who has dedicated this much time in trying to educate himself.

 

Any donation, no matter how little,  will much appreciated and would definitely go a long way.
