Please Help Sara And Her Family
Sara is a long-time nurse who for years has selflessly taken care of others, including countless patients, her 2 sons - one who lives with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome - and her husband, who has lost most of his vision to a rare congenital condition. We met this summer at Camp Harlam, where campers and staff have also benefitted from her kindness and empathy for the past 3 summers.
This year, while continuing her work as a frontline hero in Philadelphia during the COVID-19 pandemic, Sara and her family were displaced from their home of 20 years when damage caused by improper demolition and construction techniques on a neighboring building led to condemnation and immediate evacuation of their own house. They were forced to take only what they could carry, first to a motel, then to a rental property, as they appealed to their insurance company for assistance. The insurance company denied their claim, and the long process of righting that wrong has begun. But it will be VERY long time until any resolution is reached.
In the meantime, summer is quickly passing by. The family has some of their belongings at their rental property, but as school approaches, warmer clothing and supplies will need to be purchased. Transportation costs have increased for them, as the two boys need to travel much further to their original schools. Sara’s husband is having to navigate unfamiliar surroundings without sight. And on top of their current mortgage on the damaged home they are also paying monthly rent for their temporary home.
Sara, being who she is, would never ask for financial help with this. I think all of us can imagine the stress and emotional toll this situation may eventually take on her and her family. We hope you will feel compelled to help this wonderful and deserving member of the healthcare and Camp Harlam community offset some of the expenses she and her family will incur by donating any amount of money you can.
