Our sweet 4-year-old cat Nova has gotten very sick. She first had an upset tummy, which caused her to stop eating. We took her to the vet, and at first, medications seemed to help. But then she took a turn for the worse. Tests and a major surgery revealed she has severe fatty liver disease. She wasn’t able to keep food down and went into shock, so we had to take her to the ER.

We got her there just in time. The vets were able to stabilize her, and she has been in intensive care ever since. She is receiving fluids, medication, and nutrition through a feeding tube. Her vitals are improving, she is keep food down, and her red blood cell levels are incrementally increasing, but not fast enough for her to come home yet. Our veterinarian believes the next step in her recovery is a blood transfusion. This would give her body the support it needs, allowing her to focus on healing her liver, which is already showing gradual improvement.

Right now, Nova needs a blood transfusion ($2,000) to give her the best chance at recovery. The total cost of her hospitalization and ongoing care is closer to $10,000, which we cannot manage on our own after the care she has already needed. Nova is SO close to coming home, and we want to give her the best chance at recovery. Fatty liver disease is something that cats can recover from. Any support — whether toward the transfusion or sharing our story — makes a huge difference.
