YWAM 2017

Hey! I'm Megan Thompson.

God called me to do missions at a very young age. When I was twelve years old, I remember sitting in a church service listening about a team who had just gotten back from a mission trip in Uganda, Africa. Instantly I knew that's what I was supposed to do. For years and years I prayed that God would send me on a mission trip, and for years and years I never got the chance. But I never expected what God had planned for me next.

Fast forward five years, I had just moved to a new state right before my senior year of high school. My family and our new friends were out to dinner one night, and my mom brought up a friend of hers who's daughter had done mission work through the organization Youth With a Mission. I loved the thought of doing YWAM, but didn't think I ever would. But then God reminded me of my call to missions, and I knew I had to apply. Right after I graduated I applied, and two weeks later I got accepted! But the school started in three months. I had no idea how I would get the money. I knew I had to put all my faith in God. If YWAM was were I was meant to be, I knew He would provide.

For those who haven't heard of YWAM before, it is a mission training program that equips young people to go out and preach the gospel. I will be doing a Discipleship Training School (DTS). In a DTS, there are twelve weeks of training on base (in my case the base is in Maui, Hawaii), and 10-12 weeks of outreach in Asia. The DTS is put into two groups and given a country where they will be going for their outreach. I was put on Team Bangladesh!

While I am in Bangladesh, I will be pouring out love to kids in orphanages, teaching in church services, and helping wherever is needed. Bangladesh is primarily a Muslim nation, with 90% of the population being this religion. As a sign of respect for the Bangladeshi people and their culture, we will be wearing their traditional clothes, a salwar kameez and headscarf, for the duration of the mission trip. I can’t wait to see what God does through our group in this nation!

We are currently still on lecture phase, and I have been so blessed thus far to be able to fully pay for this part of my DTS. Unfortunately, I am currently a couple thousand short on my outreach fees. Whether through prayer or financial donation, any form of support would be such a blessing.

Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to read this.

God bless,
Megan
