Helping Fancy

When we pulled this little girl from the shelter she was missing most of her hair and her foster mom said she was going to be “fancy” some day when her hair grew back. Hence, her name, Fancy. 


It appeared from the beginning that Fancy hadn’t had the best life in her maybe 5 years. Besides missing most of her hair, being covered with fleas and stinking, she had obvious issues with both back legs. But she was the happiest little girl who didn’t seem to let anything get her down and we all immediately fell in love with her. 


The veterinarian determined her hips were manageable but both knees would require surgery to repair. She also had a few mammary tumors that would be removed during her first knee surgery as well as getting spayed. 


We scheduled surgery right away. We couldn’t wait for her to be “fancy”. We looked forward to the day this sweet girl could run and play just as hard as the other dogs in her foster home. And she was enjoying all the new found love and attention. 


Surgery day- surgery begins to remove the tumors and all of a sudden our dreams for Fancy’s bright future become dark. They discover mammary tumors along her entire mammary chain...cancer! 


Now our sweet little girl will never grow old only because she was never spayed. Something that should have been done before her first heat cycle. So heartbreaking that this could have been prevented by a routine procedure. 


So even though her knees will never be fixed and her hair isn’t quite grown in, she’s already Fancy to us.


So now our new wish for Fancy is that she gets her very own family to give her all the love and care she deserves her last months, and for those that aren't able to adopt right now please consider donating to her medical needs.
