Keep the DREAM alive

Donation protected
Dear Friends,
I have been teaching for almost two decades.  In that time, I have never asked for a single penny to support the work I do.  That time has come. But I do not ask for myself.  I am asking for your help to make one of my student's dreams come true.

She is a DREAMer with a DREAM.  And her dream is in danger.

I cannot (at this time) reveal the name of this student because I do not want to compromise her privacy.  And she does not know that I am doing this.  I will call her "Flora" for now.

Flora is the kind of student that makes every teacher's work joyful.  Vibrant, responsible, and truly engaged in learning for the sake of learning, she has surpassed every hurdle and obstacle put in her place.

She has successfully applied and been accepted to the University of her dreams, Seattle University. And even though she has applied and received a small financial aid package.  She is nowhere CLOSE to being able to cover the exorbitant costs of even one single year.  (It is in the neighborhood of $45k just for tuition.)

She has applied for many scholarships and is planning on doing work-study.  She is writing competitive essays for contests with monetary awards. She is doing everything she can to help herself, which is what she has always done.

Flora is the American Dream.  She is on the verge of greatness.  But there is a vast chasm that may make that dream impossible for her.

Her story is like so many thousands of students who are in this country who have worked tirelessly, taken NOTHING for GRANTED and I want so much to send her the message that I believe in her. That WE believe in her.

I will spare you the long sob story about what the last eighteen months of life have been like for her,  living in fear of potentially having her family ripped apart by the shifting whims of politicians in our country, living in fear of leaving her home to go to school each day.  And yet here she is.  Every single day.

Instead, I will ask you to make a difference to me and to her by contributing whatever it is that you feel so compelled to share.  No amount is too large or small.  Every dollar puts her one step closer to the dream that she has worked so hard achieve.

Please feel encouraged to share with your friends and family. I have no ego. I am not above begging. :-)

Thank you for your consideration... and love.
