Giving Back to Amy

I'd like to introduce you to my best friend Amy. 2 weeks ago and very suddenly she was diagnosed with lobular breast cancer. It was a huge shock. I think cancer always is. The last two weeks have been a whirl wind of appointments and test and pokes and more tests and more pokes. She met with her oncologist last week and was given her treatment plan. 18 weeks of chemo (6 sessions) followed by a bi-lateral mastectomy and then radiation... she has 8 months to a year of treatment ahead of her. Her first chemo treatment is April 9th.

Amy is a single woman who lives alone with her dog and cat, many fish and her jungle of plants (Im not joking... sometimes I think shes actually mother nature herself). She works a contract position as a property manager and makes minimum wage plus bonuses. With this treatment she will still be able to fulfill SOME of her work duties but not all which will leave her in a bit of a financial predicament. She will not be able to earn her bonuses. But the real kicker is she doesnt have coverage for medication for a few more months (waiting on blue cross) and her after chemo treatment drugs are not covered because shes not living in abject poverty and doesnt have any dependants so she doesnt qualify for funding. The cost of her after chemo meds (like the ever important antinausea meds) are about $400 per chemo treatment so times 6 for $2400. Her treatment starts in 5 days and at this point she has no way to pay for those meds. Raising money to cover her meds along with a buffer to help her financially with anything that may come up over the next year is my goal for this fundraiser. Amy is a very independent woman and would never ask for help. Im having none of that. She deserves help. She deserves to be healthy and she deserves to live. She might not be a mom but she is the worlds best aunt to 12 nieces and nephews and one of fout sister. She is very loved by everyone who knows her.

Now let me tell you who Amy is. Amy is what more people should be. She is the person who would give you the shirt off her back. The type of person who has forsaken herself financially just to help someone she loves. She is the life of the party and absolutely the most hilarious person I have ever met. She is a positive ray of sunshine. So much so that even her tenants LOVE her. She's the type of person who will drop anything if her friends or family need her. She is a friend, an aunt, a sister, a daughter, a niece. She is determined and hard working. She has, on many occasions gone out of her way financially to help new tenants that have come from bad sitautions. She drove her neighbor to chemo many times just last year when he was diagnosed. Every single time I have ever called on my friend... she's been there as one of the most loving people I know. She comes to dentist appointments with me because I have anxiety about it and acts as my dental doula. She was right there by my side advocating for me after a massive surgery I had last year. I kid you not this woman only knows how to give to the world... she never takes. She has a heart of gold and a smile that lights the room. She has a passion for animals and has rescued many over the years... she feeds, I swear, every bird in her neighborhood. She is an avid gardener, like I said earlier, more like mother nature herself. She takes joy in the small things. Material things matter not to her. The picture above was taken the morning of her diagnoses. She has handled all of this like the brave soldier she is... only getting teary a few times. She's ready to meet this demon head on. She's not afraid. She is strong but even the strongest people need a helping hand sometimes. She needs these drugs. She needs a little financial security. She's given so much... and Im asking so little. Please help me help my friend stay alive and well. I dont want to say goodbye which means she cant do this without these meds.

So today I ask you to help in any way you can. $1 or $5, whatever you can give will help.

Amy has lots of friends and family who adore her but none of us can afford to pick up this tab on our own. Can you help us?

Shes here for a reason. Its not time for her to go. Your help is more appreciated than I can ever express.

Many many thanks. All money raised will be deposited directly into her account.

Love Amber (Amy's BFF, sister from another mister)
