**UPDATE as of 11/9/22… and THANK YOU!**

Dear friends of Daisy,

I wanted to let you know that Daisy is doing GREAT! She did have pyometra (an infection in the uterus) and required very costly emergency removal of her stillborn puppies, as well as spay surgery, at the emergency vet. Then we had some struggles with pain management, necessitating yet another trip to the vet… but she is now essentially and thankfully healed from all that! Furthermore, the parvo and pancreatitis seem to be happily things of the past.

She does have a heart murmur but is on medication for that and it will be monitored with a semi-annual echocardiogram.

She also has two large lumps, one between her eyes and one on her sternum. However, the vets believe they are just lipomas. Of course, in an ideal world, they would aspirate the lumps and test to make sure, but we’ve decided not to go that route, for now, due to cost and the likely benign diagnoses.

As for amputation of her front left leg, which she is no longer using after getting hit by a car about six months before we rescued her, we are holding off on that also, because it will be an extremely expensive procedure. She is getting around without issue, and the open wound she had on her wrist is all healed now that she isn’t dragging it on the pavement all day.

So that’s the Daisy Report! She really is our little miracle dog (we also like to call her our Million Dollar Chihuahua, for obvious reasons!). When we look back on how she was just a little over a month ago, it is simply astounding! She came to us on death’s door, quite literally, but now she is happy and active, loves to bark at passers-by, loves to chase squirrels and blue jays in our yard, and when it’s time for a snooze she snores like a drunken sailor! We are absolutely in love with her and thrilled she is part of our family – and will be for the rest of her days!

Thank you once again, everyone, for being Miss Daisy's Angels!

Marla, Joe and Daisy

*CRITICAL SITUATION! Daisy at emergency vet!* (2nd UPDATE 10/29/22)

Friends, we are at the emergency vet with Daisy. She is currently trying to expel her puppies, who have not survived, but still need to be birthed. There's been a new, critical (possible) development: she may have pyometra. Pyometra is a pus-filled uterus and it can lead to sepsis if not treated immediately. If it is determined that she does have pyometra, she will need immediate surgical removal of her female reproductive organs, including both ovaries, the uterine horns, and the body of the uterus, thus removing the infection. So it is a essentially a spay operation, but an emergency one, at an emergency vet, so the cost will be much, much higher than the previously-mentioned ~$600. It could be as high as $3000.

We don't know yet if she has pyometra or if she's just trying to evacuate the puppies and her body will not allow it. At the moment we only know that there is unwanted fluid in her uterus. We are awaiting results of a blood test, which will tell us if she is fighting an infection (i.e. pyometra).

Whether or not she has pyometra, she is in critical condition, as things are not going smoothly with her labor. Please share and please send prayers and healing thoughts -- and, if you feel so moved, please donate.

Forever grateful,

Marla

Hello Friends of Daisy!

First, THANK YOU ALL for your kindness, prayers and healing intentions – and for your generous donations!! You have made the difference between life and death for our sweet little Daisy.

Some important updates…

Pregnancy: sadly, but perhaps not surprisingly, we’ve just learned that the three puppies she’s carrying have died. But she is currently in labor, nonetheless, with a sudden decrease in energy, continual ‘nesting’ and licking herself, and settling down for birth.

Parvo: I had reported in my last update that a second vet thought the parvo diagnosis might have been a false positive, and therefore ran another test. Turns out that test *confirmed* parvo. However, the great news is that she is showing no parvo symptoms whatsoever, and we believe she is out of the woods (and maybe completely recovered) from that!

Pancreatitis: she is showing no symptoms of this, either, so we believe she has recovered from her pancreatitis, as well, or at least is well on her way!

Eating/drinking & energy level: all great now! (except for right this moment, as she settles down for labor) She absolutely LOVES car rides and walks, and you should see her with her stuffies! Who knew this sweet little girl could be so ferocious!?

So, despite the loss of the puppies, overall today’s Daisy-report is very positive, considering the state she was in just a few weeks ago.

That said, we still have a goal of an additional $1500 in donations, for these reasons:

  •  She will soon need her spay surgery, but she has a heart murmur, so she’s just had an EKG to make sure she could survive the surgery (final result not in yet, but initial assessment is that she’ll be fine with the spaying). The EKG visit was $600.
  •  The prenatal visit of a couple days ago that determined the puppies had died was $480.
  •  The vet’s estimate for the upcoming spay surgery was about $600, as well.

The above three items = just under $1700

It’s also important to note, as I’ve mentioned before, the amputation for her damaged leg from the car crash is still on the menu, but we are waiting until these more pressing items have passed and she is adequately recovered.

Again, I can’t say it enough – THANK YOU ALL for all the concern you’ve shown Miss Daisy and for your generous donations. As you can see, there are more costs to come, and we are struggling with what we have spent so far, so please, please share this GoFundMe, if you feel so moved!

With deepest gratitude,

Marla

*UPDATE as of October 16, 2022*

Hello everyone and thank you so much for caring! What a week Miss Daisy has had. The great news is that she is doing better! In particular, current theory is that the parvovirus may have been a false positive, as she is showing no symptoms of that deadly illness anymore. We are awaiting results of a second fecal test to confirm.

Not gonna lie, it was truly touch n’ go there for a couple days. In fact, according to her vets, her (so-far) recovery is nothing less than miraculous!

All that said, she is not out of the woods yet. She does have pancreatitis and she is indeed pregnant, with three puppies with heartbeats in the oven, due in about 2.5 weeks. Thankfully, she is finally eating (some) and drinking water, she’s showing more energy, and her sweet personality is coming out. She’s even playing with toys, hopping around with one front leg up, like the dear little tripod she is! We feel hopeful that the pancreatitis can be treated successfully, her pups delivered safely, and then a much needed spay surgery as soon as appropriate after that.

After allllllll that has passed, we will need to address the amputation, but that is some distance down the road, for now.

Thank you all for your warm hearts and generous donations. There are more costs to come, and we are still struggling with what we have spent so far, so please, please share this GoFundMe with your friends, if you feel so moved!

*INITIAL POST* (slightly edited for clarity)

Hello, my name is Marla. I rescued Daisy from a homeless man on October 7, after I saw her hobbling around, not using her front left leg. He said she was hit by a car six months ago. She’s been in pain and dragging her leg around for that long! He let me have her, and I rushed her to the vet who confirmed that the leg needs to be amputated.

On top of that, after over $1000 in blood work, x-rays, ultrasound, and medicine, it was determined that she is pregnant and has pancreatitis and parvovirus. She isn’t eating and is even throwing up water. We urgently need to stabilize her.

My husband and I want to keep her but are feeling completely overwhelmed with the amount of care she needs.

Please help us help Daisy! Any amount contributed is helpful and SO greatly appreciated. She is a very sick little girl, and we desperately hope to bring her to full recovery and provide a safe, healthy, and happy life in our loving home.

Thank you in advance for your donations and prayers!

Gratefully,
Marla
