Emergency Vet Costs

Donation protected

A lot can happen in two weeks.  Victoria and I have 3 pets that are undoubtedly part of our family.  2 cats and a dog.  About 2 weeks ago, our eldest cat Claudia was having some health issues, so we took her to our normal vet, and got her some anti-biotics, it was about $120.  No big deal really, a slight inconvenience at worst.  But later on in the same night we brought back Claudia from the vet, we noticed our younger cat Bojangles was having serious breathing issues.  It was late, around 9 p.m. and the only vet open at this hour is the Emergency Vet.  They are notoriously expensive, but when a cat is having serious respiratory issues, you need to have them looked at ASAP.  Given the choice of waiting until the morning to take him to our regular vet, and possibly waking up to a dead cat or the emergency vet, we made the decision to prioritize saving his life.

He ended up spending the entire night in an oxygen tent, and getting xrays, and medication that would evacuate fluid from his lungs.  But no diagnosis on what caused the issue.

The total bill for that landed somewhere around $840.

This morning he was again having issues, but we could take him to our regular vet.  We found out that he has a hole in his heart, which is connected to his lungs which is causing his lungs to fill with liquid over time.  More xrays, and more shots and more medication.  This time $300.  The vet hopes that the medication he is on now will stabilize him, but if it doesn't we will need to be referred to a cardiologist, which according to the vet will be around $400.

Now, you may be aware of the statistic that %57 of familes in the U.S. couldn't cover a surprise expense of $500.  Victoria and I are doing okay, and fortunately had the money on hand to pay for all of this so far.  But we are by no means well off financially.  Struggling to have a savings account consistently over $1,000.  I'm not one to typically ask for anything, and up to this point I never have, but all of these costs, all of the sudden has really hurt us and is quite frankly hugely stress inducing.  Literally any amount would be appreciated greatly, and will help out immensely.
