<div>Emily Maki of Wells sustained life-altering injuries following a tragic weight-lifting accident. She was rendered paralyzed from the waist down. She is currently recovering at Maine Medical Center and is facing some huge challenges both mentally and physically.

<div>To anyone who knows her personally, Emily is a ball of energy and makes everything fun.  She is one of the most loyal, supportive friends who makes it her mission to uplift those around her.  In her job and personal life, she finds a connection with everyone she talks to. I have been amazed to be present when she meets people for the first time from a completely different state and she walks away finding out that they somehow have friends in common, or shared experiences, it is a truly incredible thing about her.  She is the first one to send you a card, give you a hand sewn gift, or buy something from your Tupperware party, just to support you.

<div>Emily is an incredibly active person, working out every morning, and constantly running, hiking, or biking in her spare time.  She recently fell in love with mountain biking and has been exploring all the trails around the area and beyond.

<div>Our goal with this fundraiser is to keep Emily doing the active things she loves and provide her the right tools to make life easier as well as help her access the BEST rehabilitation services possible.

<div>The cost of living for someone with spinal cord injuries is astronomical. Costs related to paraplegia include wheelchairs, adaptive equipment, physical therapy, medications, modified vehicles, and significant home modifications including showers, ramps, doorways.  On average, costs for this type of injury are over $500,000 for the first year.

<div>Emily is unfortunately in a situation where she needs to start from scratch even down to finding a home that is wheelchair accessible for her and her son.  She can use absolutely all the help that our wonderful community can provide.
