We are a not-for-profit unincorporated entity, fully permitted to rescue and rehabilitate all Australian raptor species. Of which there are 27 in South Australia ranging from the tiny Kestrel to the iconic Wedgetail Eagle.
Based in the north of the Yorke Peninsula we are one of only three raptor rehabilitation facilities in the state. My partner a vet of 42 years’ experience and I run the operation together dealing with everything from quick turn around patients to those needing sometimes weeks or months of specialist rehabilitation.
For seven years we ran Northeast Raptor Rescue in Tasmania before moving back to SA in 2025. To see our work there please search Facebook .
Since we began mid 2025 we have had over 25 birds through care and release.
We have a small in house hospital and treatment area and are gradually building more external facilities. Our intention is to build another set of 3 bay enclosures and a large flight “Donut aviary”.
Common reasons for birds to come into care are, impact with vehicles or infrastructure, secondary rodenticide poisoning, electrocution, climatic effect and young fledglings where nests are disturbed or they are blown from the site. Very rarely is there direct deliberate and malicious human involvement.
Threats to species may include loss of habitat and nest sites, poisons in the environment and pressure on prey species.
In addition to our rehabilitation work we will in 2026 be offering educational talks to community groups and schools.
