Changing Destinations: Journey To Excellence, Inc. (CDJTE ), a non-profit 501c3 student achievement organization, has collaborated with Cadre Consulting & Training company to recruit and train five professionals and college interns who possess high altruistic values and the ability to volunteer as Youth Leadership and Development (YDL) Facilitators. YDL Facilitators will be trained to engage and develop youth between ages 13- 21.
We are seeking sponsors in an effort to raise a minimum of $5,000. The total budget for this initiative is $15,000; we have achieved two-thirds of our goal.
Facilitators will participate in 35-hours of intensive hands-on training. The funds will be used exclusively for the purchase of curriculum material for each facilitator, space rental and supplemental training resources. The curriculum to be used is the ‘Rising Star” and a supplemental resource book Sometimes You Win Sometimes You Learn For Teens (SWSTYL) by leadership expert John C. Maxwell.
· Rising Stars – Provides a solid foundation that is designed to prepare our youth for life-long learning, self- development, and achievement. It is an innovative and unique self-development process. This evidence-based approach focuses on three critical elements that promote personal leadership, healthy behaviors, and the skills employers identify as essential.
· SWSYL for Teens – Any setback--a championship loss, a bad grade, a botched audition-can be seen as a step forward when teens possess the right tools to turn that loss into a gain of knowledge. Drawing on nearly fifty years of leadership experience, Dr. Maxwell provides a roadmap for becoming a true learner, someone who wins in the face of problems, failures, and losses.
It is our belief self-leadership in combination with self-knowledge and goal setting enhances the ability of youth to assess the impact of their potential as well as plan for success--now and in the future. It is our goal to see our youth transition beyond traditional approaches to learning where they are able to apply self-leadership skills to take control of their destiny.
Our facilitators and college interns are committed to making a difference in the lives of youth and becoming a part of our Youth Leadership & Development (YLD) Facilitator team. Upon completion of the Youth Leadership and Development training, the Facilitators will work with youth from high needs areas in Baltimore City, Howard and Anne Arundel Counties.
We have partnered with several organizations in an effort to reach targeted youth. Our partner organizations include: Howard County Public School Systems, John Maxwell Team, National Association Professional Women, Johns Hopkins Office of Multicultural Affairs, The Gift of Love, Inc., and Inxcellence Consulting: Coaching & Training Solutions.
We believe all students have uncharted potential and it is our goal to partner with our students and teach them how to chart their own course to success.
