Empower Female Youth to Lead!

Donation protected
My name is Dr. Kim Carter, Founder and Executive Director of a new non-profit organization, the Youth Leader-Shift Project .

I founded the Youth Leader-Shift Project because I believe it's time for a shift in who leads our country and a shift in how they lead. I believe it's time for gender parity in leadership positions across the public and private sector. And, it's time for a shift in the values associated with "good" leadership to ensure collective and innovative solutions for the most pressing social problems we face.

That's why our leadership training program empowers the next generation of female leaders to wield authentic power and pursue bold ideas with courage.

In the spirit of International Women's Day 2018, we want to raise $2018 by March 31 to #PressForProgress on gender parity in leadership. These funds will cover the entire 8-month cost of our program venue at the Centre for Social Innovation - Regent Park.

Our stretch goal is to raise an additional $2018 toward course material for our participants (a reading package, a journal and program workbook).

Program Details:

This year, we are excited to launch our leadership training program to a diverse and driven cohort of female youth in Toronto, ON.  Our program is facilitated by me (a former professor) and offered free of charge to maximize accessibility and inclusion.

From September 2018-April 2019, twenty-five diverse female youth (ages 18-28) will enhance their leadership skills, their professional connections and their resumes.

Part I: 10 weeks of in-class workshops, public speaking opportunities and expert guest lectures.

Part II: 14 weeks of mentorship as participants complete a hands-on service-learning experience, applying leadership skills to address an issue in their community.

Facts Behind the Ask:

We need a leader-shift because...

We need safe workplaces that allow women to focus on their work and thrive in their professions.

Women are grossly under-represented in leadership positions in the public and private sectors:

At the current rate of change, gender parity is estimated to be around 200 years in the future.

Ipsos surveyed 3,014 women on leadership for KPMG in 2015. They found that women have the ambition and skill to lead but lack confidence and connections:

Our program builds confidence and connections for young women in Canada. We also create a recruitment goldmine for employers in search of diverse, high talent, women.

If you believe it's time for a leader-shift, please donate this International Women's Day and help the Youth Leader-Shift Project #PressForProgress.
