Hello everyone,

Thank you for reading!  My name is Keziah Mae McIntosh.  I am a 5th grader and soon to be 6th grader and I’m soooooo excited to go to middle school!  This year I’ve worked harder than ever to start and finish the school year and graduate elementary with honors!  This by far has been one of the best years of my life and it’s only getting better.

This school year I won the Nebraska Strengthening Democracy Award  for being an “Outstanding Student Leader.”  This award is given to community leaders who are taking steps to make their community a more vibrant place to live. I was nominated by my teachers, peers and school district.  I was recognized within my community as an outstanding student leader and athlete.

In April I was selected to attend this year’s Junior National Young Leadership conference   in Washington, DC.  The JrNYLC is held to honor and inspire the most exceptional middle school students in the nation, distinguished by our academic excellence, leadership potential, and maturity, and to reinforce the virtues of leadership, citizenship, and democracy while using Washington, DC as our classroom.

This is so cool and I can’t wait to go, learn and meet new people.  Here are some of the cool things I’ll get to do and skills I’ll be able to learn and take with me throughout life.  I’ll be able to learn and help others which is something I’ve always loved doing! I’ll get to learn important concepts of leadership that will prepare me for academic success.  I’ll learn skills that will help me communicate better, along with goal setting, problem solving and team working skills. At the JrNYLC, I will have the opportunity to participate in leadership development workshops where I will develop skills including effective communication, public speaking, and conflict resolution.

We’ll learn in both the classroom and during several field study trips throughout our Nation’s Capital, including Harper's Ferry, the U.S. Capitol Visitor's Center, The National Museum of American History, The Lincoln Memorial, The Vietnam Veterans Memorial, The Korean War Veterans Memorial and I’m super stoked to visit the Martin Luther King Jr memorial.

At the Junior National Young Leaders Conference (JrNYLC), I’ll get to spend 6 amazing days in and around the National’s capital with other students from across the country We’ll get to spend a night in the Maryland Science Museum and learn some pretty cool things about history.  I watched the Youtube video, it’s pretty cool! Would you like to help me attend this amazing opportunity? I could use your help.

Sincerely,

Keziah Mae McIntosh
