Levi Young is Mikala’s husband. Three weeks ago, he started suffering with pain and pressure in his sinuses behind his right eye.  The doctors thought it was a sinus infection, treating him with antibiotics.  After a couple days, the vision in his right eye failed--causing double vision, nausea and terrible headaches.  He went to the emergency room several times—having first a CT scan, then MRI, and a MRA (magnetic resonance angiogram).  He was sent home from the ER each time with no explanation of why he had pain and double vision.  Monday March 26th, he had another MRI directly of his right eye, sinus, and brain.

Levi was diagnosed with Cavernous Sinus Thrombosis (CST), which is the formation of a blood clot within the cavernous sinus (a cavity at the base of the brain which drains deoxygenated blood from the brain back to the heart). The cause is usually from a spreading infection in the nose, sinuses, ears, or teeth.  This is NOT the case with Levi--he has no Infection in his body at all.  They are doing bloods test to determine what caused this clot.

Levi and Mikala moved to Birmingham Alabama last August for Levi to start Nursing School at Herzing University.  He started his program September 1st of last year.  He has kept his GPA at a 4.0 up until 3 weeks ago.  From his debilitating and unbearable pain, he missed too many classes and clinical hours, which has resulted in Levi having to withdraw from this term. If all goes well with his recovery, we hope he can resume classes in July.

In November, Mikala returned to Starbucks as a Store Manager, taking on the income for the family.  Mikala has insurance that covers Levi (but it is not enough!) and they have a very high deductible.  She has missed the better part of the last couple weeks in helping Levi through this ordeal. Mikala has been strong and supportive, but is also clearly stressed with Levi’s immense pain, as well as the financial pressure that comes with multiple nights in the hospital.

We have had a lot of responses from people who want to help and didn’t know what to do—so we have decided to start this Gofundme page so people have an easy way to help out. We are not trying to create any pressure to help—but if you are wanting or willing, we & the Youngs would greatly appreciate it. If anything, we ask for your prayers, encouragement, and good vibes as we are trying to support the Youngs from many miles away. We thank you for taking the time to read this and for partnering and cheering with us…for those of you who already knew about this, we have felt your prayers and encouragement and are very grateful!!!
