Young Girl Brutally Assaulted!!

Hi, my name is Patricia, and I learned of a disturbing story about an assault of an innocent young 11-year-old girl named Maria. As a parent, I would never want what happened to Maria to occur to anyone in my family. Maria comes from an impoverished community. Maria babysits a young boy after school and is like any typical young girl who has experienced an unimaginable circumstance. Maria has aspirations to break out of the cycle of poverty through education.

Maria lives in Nicaragua and was on her way to school with her mother when they were assaulted and raped by three men. Unfortunately, the mother passed away due to her injuries, and Maria has been hospitalized. Maria has damage to her right eye and suffers from a possible retina detachment, which may require surgery. Maria is unaware of her mother's passing, and the funds raised will help with hospital bills and the care she will need to recover from her trauma, both physically and mentally.

As someone who has spent years working with impoverished children and who looks at education as the light at the end of the tunnel, I understand the hurdles these children face. I hope Maria’s story gives you insight into her life and the environment she lives in. Like any mother, we set our hearts on the safety and success of our children. Our partner charity will use other funds, after hospital bills, to improve her living situation and remove her from this dangerous environment. However, she needs safety and security before Maria can continue to have a better life and focus on her education.
