Young family lost everything in tragic house fire

My name is Nadine and I'm fund-raising on behalf of a beautiful young family of 5 who lost everything in a devastating house fire that ravaged through their home in the middle of the night on Wednesday the 6th of January 2021.

Patrick and Tania are from a small town in the mountains of Lebanon. They are childhood sweethearts who got married and were blessed with 3 beautiful daughters: Marie-Charbel (6), Manuella (4) and Marina (18 months old).

In a country ravaged by Covid-19 (4000 cases a day in a population of less than 5 million), a corrupt government that steals people's money instead of providing help, total economic collapse (the Lebanese currency lost around 60% of its value) and banks holding people's savings hostage, this young family is left with nothing and no one to help them rebuild.

Patrick had lost his job in a travel agency when the revolution started in 2019 and the economic collapse began. He was out of work until just recently when he found a job as an orderly at a hospital. The income was barely enough for them to survive.

On Wednesday the 6th of January this family went to bed safe in their home and were woken in the middle of the night by the sound of kitchen wall tiles snapping and falling. Imagine their horror to find their house on fire. With too much smoke in the house, they couldn't make it to the front door, so Patrick and Tania gathered their girls and hid on the balcony until the fire fighters arrived and put the fire out. The fire was started by the Christmas tree lights which had shorted.

They were left with nothing but the pyjamas they were wearing and are now staying with Patrick's parents in a small apartment.

They need at least US$40,000 to fix the apartment to a liveable condition and furnish it with basics as the collapse of the Lebanese currency made things up to 8 times more expensive.

These beautiful little girls went to bed one night feeling safe at home and woke up to a horrific nightmare. They have lost their home, their sanctuary. They have lost the smile on their parents' faces. They have lost all their favourite dresses. They have lost their toys. They have lost all that is familiar to them.

Please let's help bring a sense of normalcy back to their lives. Let's bring the smile back to their faces. Let's give these beautiful girls their home back.
