YOUNG FAMILY LOSES HOME IN FIRE
Donation protected
A Sussex, NB family is without their home after a fire on April 3rd, 2023.
Jerika Shay, a young, stay at home mother of 4 children 7 and under, has been left homeless after a devastating fire rendered their rented home unliveable a week before Easter of 2023.
The local fire department was called to the scene around 4:10pm the afternoon of April 3rd after a neighbour noticed the flames outside of the 100+ year old historical home.
The blaze was mostly up the back side of the house, which was destroyed. It took fire crews approximately an hour to knock down the fire and then they were left to deal with hot spots in various places of the building.
At the time of the fire, Jerika and her oldest 3 children were at the eye doctor. Jerikas boyfriend and youngest child were home with their dog when a neighbour yelled in to alert them of the fire outside. The home was quickly evacuated and thankfully nobody was hurt.
The family has been in touch & assisted by red cross for the time being but will be desperately searching for accommodations in the coming week. Anyone who has any thoughts on a place to stay for Jerika and her 4 children is encouraged to reach out to Jerika.
Due to smoke damage and damage from the foam used to extinguish the fire Jerika and her children will need all the help they can get. From clothes, to beds, to basic furniture and living supplies, anything would be an immense help.
We're looking for donations to keep a roof over their heads for the next couple of months, to provide them with the needs to replace all of their damaged and unusable furniture, clothing and other belongs, as well as to assist with the costs of living which we all know, are higher than ever right now.
