You're not just investing in a business...

You’re not just investing in a business, you’re investing in the community.

For nearly a decade, The Harriet Brasserie has been a valued institution in Linden Hills. Located in the heart of the Linden Hills village on W 43rd St., they are a  friendly home away from home for residents and visitors craving things comforting and delicious. Who can imagine more gracious hosts than owners Fernando and Kalinka, who for eight years went without vacation and rarely took a day off, to build their dream business of a welcoming neighborhood brasserie.

For ten years Fernando and Kalinka have generously donated gift cards to local schools and organizations, supported citywide causes and participated annually in the popular Taste of Linden Hills, where they donated hundreds of samples each year to raise money for the Linden Hills Neighborhood Council. Now it's our chance to "give back" and thank them for supporting our community, by showing community support for this neighborhood business.

Their connection to the community remained strong throughout the lockdown. During this summer's quarantine, they offered curbside take out even when it was not very financially viable, allowing us to have a break from home cooking. Once allowed to open in a limited capacity, they joined forces with Everett and Charlie to sponsor jazz and pop musicians performing on the sidewalk three evenings every week. The events offered our regular customers and passersby a group jamboree and a chance to share smiles beneath their masks. Now, just as they have been there for you in challenging times, we ask you to come together for them.

Harriet Brasserie faces a financial and existential challenge. Covid-19 has dwindled opportunities for people to gather closely. The momentum of the summer popularity has slowed due to the colder weather, drastically reducing the operating income and cutting into our financial commitment to the scores of local staff members who we support. In the best of times, successful enterprises like these operate with frugal profit margins. With considerably reduced guests through the short-term future, they need our support to help keep the bills paid and the lights on until they can reopen at full capacity as before.

Asking for help is hard, but small businesses are facing unprecedented difficulties and many won't survive. Please help ensure this will not be the case for our friends at Harriet.

The goal of this GoFundMe drive is to encourage you to please make whatever donation you can afford to help us meet those goals in the coming months.

A little plug:
Harriet Brasserie was so grateful for the support of Everett and Charlie  this summer, arranging music to bring people to the neighborhood and restaurant. To run a local independent neighborhood-based restaurant or art gallery is an incredibly labor-intensive business. Offering an inviting meeting place for customers, delighting their tastes and offering them splendid new surprises is almost a labor of love.

Each business carefully celebrates a vital category of human creativity, cuisine and art, that is good for the soul. Each is offered at a level of quality that visitors say few peers can match. It’s difficult to consider a life well lived that lacks either. To imagine Linden Hills without either of these nurturing enterprises - or both - is an unpleasant prospect. We encourage you to also support Everett and Charlie here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-minneapolis-art-gallery

It is a gesture of faith in the value of each business. Whatever you can consider to donate, all involved thank you for this act of goodwill and partnership. Whatever the size, your contribution is priceless.
