You have the power to help kids

Donation protected
Hi everyone. My name is Jane Kovarikova and I grew up in foster care. At age 16, I "aged-out" of the system and started to live on my own. After overcoming some tough lessons, I am now a doctoral student in political science (more details are pasted below). I am so grateful that people believed in me along the way.

Now I am asking for help to give the most vulnerable children in our communities a fair chance at a good life.

As you read, foster kids who leave the system are set up for very hard lives:
-homelessness
-early parenthood
-low academic achievement
-unemployment and poverty
-criminal justice system involvement
-poor physical and mental health
-loneliness

These are not the futures we would accept for our own children. And I personally know that it does not have to be this way. That is why your support is essential.

I incorporated a not-for-profit, the Child Welfare Political Action Committee Canada. The purpose of the Child Welfare PAC is to compel politicians to redesign the child protection system so that youth succeed after care.

Our group consists of professionals with lived experience in the system who beat the odds. We believe that an evidence-based and outcomes-driven child welfare system is the key to breaking the cycle and ensuring kids succeed.

This campaign will support advocacy activities. To start, we will host an annual event at the Ontario legislature to ensure the system is accountable for the children it is parenting.

Please donate if you agree that every child deserves an enriching experience in foster care that leads to success or help by sharing this link with your colleagues, friends and family.

The system will not change without you!

Thank you for reading.

Jane's Bio: Jane grew up in foster care since the age of six and began living on her own at age 16. Understanding the unique circumstances and challenges faced by youth-in-care inspired an ongoing academic and professional commitment to bettering youth outcomes. In 2009, she graduated with MSc in Human Rights from the London School of Economics. Later, her advocacy as chief of staff to an opposition member of provincial parliament was instrumental to developing legislation that will reduce youth homelessness in Ontario. Currently, Jane serves on the board executive of Simcoe-Muskoka Family Connexions and is a PhD Candidate at Western University in the Department of Political Science.
