Dear Friends,

My name is Yosha Iglesias. I'm a transgender woman, a professional chess player and coach, and the first (and so far, only) trans Woman International Master. I'm also striving to become the first trans Woman Grandmaster.

As a trans sportswoman, I must juggle three key aspects of my life: my transition, my career, and my political battles.

I can no longer delay my sex reassignment surgery, but I also want to keep competing in chess as a woman while I still can—and be ready to fight back against an impending full trans ban.

In 2023, FIDE, the Russia-led World Chess Federation, partially banned trans players. With the growing transphobic wave in the USA and the International Olympic Committee, I anticipate a complete ban soon. As the most vocal trans person in chess, I can’t afford to be in recovery when that happens.

I therefore decided to split my surgery into two stages:

Orchidectomy on April 7, 2025 (10 days of recovery) – allowing me to progress in my transition while staying active in chess and advocacy.

Vaginoplasty in late 2026 (two months of recovery)

This second surgery, which I have been awaiting since the beginning of my adolescence, will likely mark the end of my competitive chess career, but it will allow me to reach 40 as truly and fully myself.

Not to mention the recovery time (10 days + 2 months) during which I won’t have any income, I can’t bear the surgery costs:

€1,325 for the orchidectomy

€14,000 for the vaginoplasty

It pains me to ask, but I can’t do this alone. If you’re able to contribute, I would be eternally grateful. Every donation, share, and message of support means the world to me.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart,

Yosha

Yosha
