Paul's Medical Fund

My father, Paul, was diagnosed with terminal cancer a little over a month ago. A mass was found in his spinal cord that was shutting down the functions in his limbs, namely his left leg and left arm, and the cancer was found in several parts of his body a week later.

After being in the hospital for five weeks and a rehab center for two, he became bound to a wheelchair but was finally able to come home. Nina, my dad's amazing wife, and several good friends and family members bent over backward to prepare the house for him. The first floor was rearranged and the bathroom renovated, a hospital bed and specialized recliner were purchased, a ramp was installed out front, and several accessories to make his new life situation more comfortable. Nurses and medications stacked up, as well as the financial burden.

A few short weeks after coming home, he was hospitalized once more, as his right leg was starting to go. Without any way to independently function, the hard decision to place him in a nursing home was made last week. In his few days there, his condition has worsened considerably and he is now unconscious. He is not in any pain but will not be with us much longer.

My dad's greatest concern has been making this as easy as possible for Nina when he passes, to not leave her in a financial crisis because of his sudden and unexpected illness. In all of this, Nina has displayed grace, patience, and generosity beyond what anyone should be capable of, and somehow maintained her smile and humor throughout. I have no expectations for any amount, large or small, that I might be able to raise for her, but anything that I can do with your help is better than having done nothing.
