Remote Pools Project
Donation protected
Swimming pools in remote indigenous communities reduce high rates of infectious disease, chronic disease and drowning. They also provide a new site for community organisation/work.
Pools are now struggling to stay operational with the communities who are fortunate to even have one, many have shut down. There is a lack of funding. This is health inequity.
On the 22nd May I’ll be hiking the larapinta trail. The distance (223km) is roughly from Utju to Alice springs - the next closet pool if Utju pool were to shut. I will be doing it straight to raise awareness of this issue and talk about the new remote pools project the YMCA are doing to help keep these pools open. They need help, financially to keep going and expand to as many communities as possible in the future. The hike’s far, I’m nervous, but I hope to find a way, just in the same way I hope we can find a way to increase support to the Remote Pools Project
