Move Mountains for Autism
Donation protected
Mountaineer's School of Autism has been open and thriving for three years now! Our enrolment has grown from 5 children to almost 50! We have moved to a new location and we need your HELP. The new location is in need of repair and additional equipment. In addition, many more families south of here would love our program but we are too far. We are raising funds to acquire a second location in Boca Raton. I ask you to show your support by helping us secure this location. We are changing the lives of children and families and you can be a part of this!
My name is Mary Jo and I am the mother of a severely autistic/hearing impaired/vision impaired totally awesome son. He is 16 years old and full of great potential. He has been bounced around in the public school system to different schools every year depending whether or not his IEP said he was more deaf or autistic. The charter schools refused to accept him unless I agreed to eliminate his sign language interpreter (which was his only mode of communication). I fought tirelessly and unsuccessfully to get him more speech therapy, occupational therapy and behavior therapy. I come from a family who always taught us that if we didn't like the way someone else was doing it that we should do it ourselves.
This new, private, not-for-profit school is the product of that mindset. I have created a unique educational model that draws from years of homeschooling, 20 years as a nurse, 15 years spent in the pediatric emergency room, and an appreciation for both Eastern and Western medicine. We offer accessibility to a variety of services which are ongoing throughout the day with a team oriented and collaborative approach. By doing so the child grows, the family is united and our community is strengthened. My husband and I have invested fully into this venture and are confident this model can help countless children. I need additional funding for this initial year in order to meet startup costs and necessary electronic and therapeutic equipment. Our program is year-round with an on-site therapy center!! By providing everything the child needs in one location we can better assist the child, support the family and build stronger communities. It is our mission to RADICALLY and WONDERFULLY impact the lives of children.
I ask that you consider helping this mission so that more children can receive the quality and quantity of services needed to enrich their lives and allow them to contribute to society in the most independent and meaningful way. For more information please visit the website at www.MSAINC.org and follow us on Instagram and Twitter. I thank you very much for your kindness and generosity!
