Help Janice Fight Cancer

Donation protected
Our mom, Janice White (50), is the sun around which at least seven planets revolve, those being her husband Donald (59), her son Thomas (23), and her daughters Cassandra (21), Sarah (18), Rachel (14), and Grace (11), as well as her grandson Asher (3 months).

Because of the ever-unexpected, deeply personal mini-apocalypse that is Leukemia, our sun is dying. The light she spreads is precariously close to being snuffed out of our lives, but if our mother can be defined by any single word, it is Strength. We believe Mom can beat this, partially for the very simple reason that she’s beaten it before, but we desperately need your help. While this is not Mom’s first battle against cancer, it has proven to require greater resourcefulness, faith, endurance, and assistance than the first ever did. She needs us, and now, we need you.

Mom’s First Fight

In January of 2011, Mom was diagnosed with a carcinoma sarcoma, one of the rarest forms of breast cancer. The mass in her right breast had grown from 4 to 7 centimeters in a month, and doctors had been initially baffled, offering up every answer from “we think you have a hematoma” to “your husband must be beating you” before they discovered that cancer was the villain they were after. Mom was almost completely bedridden, barely able to walk the few feet from her bedroom to the bathroom, and high fevers consistently bombarded her in the evenings.

Despite all this, she never lost her faith in God or in her family, and the warm reassurance of her smile, though weaker than before, consistently shined on us as she told us to trust in our heavenly Father for her healing. Her faith, as it turned out, was not misplaced. On February 22nd of that year, Mom went under the knife for a radical mastectomy. Immediately after the surgery, her face began to regain its color, as the blood that the mass had been stealing from her finally began to reach where it was needed.

It was a long recovery, but the carcinoma sarcoma never resurfaced, and we truly believe that God guided the hands of the surgeons to heal our mother. During the following cancer-free years, Mom was able to focus on her work, her family, and her faith, pushing all thoughts of cancer to the back of her mind…until the autumn of 2016, when she began to suffer seemingly inexplicable and severely debilitating migraines.

Mom’s Second Fight

This intense, throbbing pain behind her eyes continued, and Mom’s strength began to rapidly decrease. After being admitted to the closest hospital and discovering that her hemoglobin levels were terrifyingly low, Mom spent months getting blood transfusions (spending Thanksgiving 2016 in a hospital bed, surrounded by her family and what food they could bring from home), and undergoing every test the doctors could think to run, before a bone marrow and skin biopsy finally confirmed in June 2017 what we had all feared too much to even voice. Cancer. Again. A different kind, this time.

Leukemia can’t be removed with surgery, and so outside that box Mom went. She bravely refused chemotherapy and began to receive alternative treatment in New York. This treatment has shown progress…but is not covered by insurance.

Why We Need Your Help

Which brings us to today. Mom is still regularly traveling from her home in West Virginia to New York for treatment, relying on the love and devotion of her immediate and extended family to make the trip. While she continues to improve, she’s a long way from being out of these deep, dangerous woods. Fighting cancer takes commitment, resolve, an incredibly strong spirit, and in this case, a great deal of money. Of that last one, we are rapidly running out.

We are the children of Janice White, and we will do everything we can to keep our beautiful sun burning as brightly as she always has, for as long as possible. That includes asking you for help. Your donations can make it possible for us to go the extra mile in making sure that Mom’s second fight against cancer is as victorious as the first was, and ensure that our sun is a long, long way from going out.

Cancer is a killer of suns. It is not merciful, considerate, or fair. Those who aid others in the war against it are among the heroes of the world, so from the depths of our hearts, we thank you for helping our mom fight cancer.
