YITR Scholarship Fund

Donation protected
Since 2017, Yoga in the Rock has been regularly providing donation-based yoga in public parks all over Little Rock, Arkansas. During that time we've been thrilled to see a steadily growing and diversifying group of people coming to the yoga classes we organize; last year alone, Yoga in the Rock (YITR) offered 15 donation-based yoga classes to over 400 participants.

During the last 4 years, we have recognized a need for more teachers of color trained in yoga and wellness. Our organization celebrates the diversity in our city, and our mission is simple: to bring yoga out of studios (which are typically white-centered spaces) and into neutral settings where everyone can practice in community.  Not only is it important for people of color to be represented in local studios, it is crucial to developing communities that are effected by gaps in wellness services. Becoming a certified yoga teacher is a serious commitment of time, money, and energy. The cost of a yoga teacher training (between $2,000-$3,000) is often a barrier to entry. That is why we are proud to announce the launch of the YITR Scholarship Fund, which is exclusively available for people of color in Little Rock that wish to pursue further training in Yoga.

Let us introduce you to Chelsea Hudspeth, the first recipient of a YITR Teacher Scholarship! We are asking you, our dear friends, to help raise $1,100 towards Chelsea's yoga teacher training this year with Bright Spark Living. In lieu of the traditional holiday fundraiser we host at Om for the Holidays every year,  we will be raising funds from now until December for this scholarship fund. During our Om for the Holidays event, we will celebrate Chelsea and the donations made to make a way for teachers of color to step forward boldly. Any additional funds raised will be used to create a second scholarship for another aspiring teacher of color. We are excited to make this an annual, ongoing fundraising focus for Yoga in the Rock!

More about Chelsea:

"I’m a southern, sunshine loving, melanated girl. Born and raised in Little Rock, AR as my late mother’s only child. I grew up surrounded and uplifted by the love of friends and family, which without a doubt is where my love for life, despite its many struggles, was founded. I’m a fan of all forms of art, live music, and festivals. I am a high school graduate, with some college experience. My time at University of Central Arkansas gifted me with my husband of 7 years, with whom I’ve created 3 beautiful daughters. At 31yrs of age, I’ve come to realize that I’ve spent the bulk of my life living and breathing to live up to the roles and responsibilities that society has placed on me. In the midst of this revelation I began searching for myself and came to yoga for a moment of peace and found so much more. My passion for the benefits of yoga fuels my desire to not only continue practicing, but help guide others in the practice as well. It is my vision to be a part of creating an open, safe, and welcoming space for every individual that would come to yoga as I have.
