Team Sandra

On April 2 our great friend Sandra Padilla’s life changed in a matter of hours.  On that day, she went for a routine doctor appointment.   A few hours later she was called back to the hospital and was told to check into the ER because she needed a blood transfusion.   As you can imagine, she was scared and confused as to why she needed a blood transfusion  especially since she had never had any major health issues.  After additional blood work and a bone marrow test, she was diagnosed with leukemia.   She began daily  chemotheraphy on April 5th and was hospitalized for 37 days.   The type of leukemia she has (acute promyeloctic leukemia) is treatable with chemotherapy. 

Sandra is now in the ‘consolidation phase’ which will last for 28 weeks or 7 months.  In this phase, she is able to receive her chemo treatments on an out-patient basis.   Her molecular cells still show cancer but her bone marrow does not.  The goal of treatment is to show no signs of cancer after the 28 weeks. 

As as you can imagine, this has caused an emotional and financial hardship on her husband Adrian (who took an unpaid leave of absence from work) and on Sandra who will not be able to work for several months.  Your donation will go directly to Sandra and Adrian to help them with their living expenses.  Any amount you can give is appreciated! 

Sandra is a wonderful friend, educator, and student advocate.  She is always willing to give to those in need.  This time it’s our turn to support her and shower her with love and donations.
