Treatment for our Mommy

Donation protected
My name is Theresa Iannotti-Kovacs, I am a 31 year old wife and mother of 2 beautiful children, Riley who is 5 and Grace who is 16 months. In March of 2011, our world was changed with the birth of our beautiful baby girl Grace.  Quickly, after giving birth to her, I began to get sick and our life was then turned upside down. I began experiencing extreme fatigue, headaches, nausea, numbness and tingling in my arms and legs. It quickly progressed and I became too ill to even hold my little girl. I went through many months of doctors appointments, test, and hospitals. Until I was finally diagnosed with P.O.T.S in March of this year  (P.O.T.S stands for Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome.

The symptoms of POTS are life altering and debilitating at times. POTS patients use about three times more energy to stand than a healthy person. It is as if these patients are running in place all the time. Activities such as housework, bathing, and even meals can exacerbate symptoms. Research shows that POTS patients' quality of life is similar to those with congestive heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Though these diseases have medications that help, for POTS there are no exact medications and the ones that are given are on a trial and error medication list. Twenty-five percent of people with POTS are disabled and unable to ever return to work. Most patients will have to make some lifestyle adjustments to cope with this disorder.

Being determined to get better and after doing several months of research, I have found a POTS treatment Center in Dallas, Texas.  They treat solely POTS patients and have an amazing success rate for patients like me. The treatment program is a two week intensive process which will require the trip to Dallas. The treatment, airfare, hotel and meals will be very expensive. Having been bed ridden for the last 3 months of my pregnancy, and now disabled with POTS, I have been unable to work since January of 2011.  Going from a two income family to a one income family, combined with mounting medical bills, makes this treatment center in Dallas seem so far from our reach.

However, my family and I believe this treatment center will help get me back to the mom and wife I was and long to be again. Though my family and I are not ones to ask for help, we know this treatment is not possible without some help.  We appreciate your time and consideration and any donation you are able to give will be most appreciated. I will keep all of you posted on my progress once I start the treatment. I have posted a web site below if you are interested in finding out more about POTS or the Treatment Center. Thank you all so much and many blessings.
