WHO WE ARE
We are committed to flatten the curve and want to allow our fellow industry folk to have the opportunity to do the same. Inspired by the Montreal Restaurant Workers Relief Fund, we began our relief fund.
At this time we are reviewing applications - we will not be dispersing funds until we are able to serve all approved applicants. Any remaining funds will be donated to Kingston Food Bank- Partners in Mission.
Career hospitality professionals across our province and country have been seriously affected by the indefinite closure of restaurants, as our country and local communities do our part to flatten the curve of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kingston is an incredibly beautiful and unique city filled with proud hospitality professionals. These workers are responsible for creating and upholding the hubs of social life, culture and culinary art that are so intertwined with our identities both as Kingstonians, and to loving visitors. Many Kingston restaurant employees and families are currently in need of assistance to cover the costs of essentials. While we do encourage all to apply for EI, this takes time and will not, in many cases, be enough.
WHAT WE ARE DOING
Many industry workers are finding themselves unable to meet their financial obligation due to a loss of income caused directly by COVID 19. In an effort to assist restaurant workers and their immediate families obtain essential needs, we will be directly transferring $150 as a one time payment.
**The Kingston Restaurant Workers Relief Fund is not meant to replace EI payments or income. The Kingston Restaurant Workers Relief Fund has been created to aid restaurant employees. As much as we would love to be able to financially support restaurant owners as well, we do not have the capacity within a two person team to do more than we are.**
We are reliant on individual donations. If you have the means, please donate - every dollar counts!
While we will be reviewing applications during the hours of 8 - 10 PM every night, you are welcome to send the application our way at any point in the day.
Send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org from the email account you would like the funds delivered to with the subject “Relief Fund Application”.
What we will need from you is a photo of your last paycheque as proof of employment - please hide any personal information such as salary, home address, etc. All we need to see is your name, date of payment and the name of the restaurant you work at.
**All information provided in the application is strictly confidential. **
Email us with answers to the following questions: Do you have any dependents? What is your family size, including yourself? Are you married/common law? If so, what does your partner do? Is the restaurant job the only job you have? What sort of financial obligations do you have and are you able to meet them?
These applications will be approved/declined based on the provided questionnaire and funds will then be distributed on a first come, first serve basis.
If you are selected for a relief fund, we will contact you at the end of our fundraiser to let you know. There is a buffer period as we wait for the funds from GoFundMe, so please be patient with us!
- APPLICANTS: you are required to read these rules/regulations and send us ALL the information that we have requested. Unless we receive a complete form, we will not consider your application.
Please make sure to blur out personal details such as your income, home address etc unless otherwise requested. If you do not have a paystub, write it at the top of your application andwe will work with you. -
This program is intended to help cover the costs of essential needs for individuals and families heavily impacted by restaurant closures in our community, and we request that only those who are affected apply.
