A Helping Hand in My Battle with MS

Donation protected
I am a 59-year-old ex-teacher of 22 years, who suffers from Multiple Sclerosis. In the 17 years since I was diagnosed I started rapidly losing weight, feeling excruciating joint pains, stiffness, swelling and spasms in various parts of my body.

Several MS relapses on I am now unable to fully function and find it tremendously difficult to walk independently. A recent X Ray showed wear and tear of the knee bone. My legs are weak and I am at a high risk of falling, which I have done on numerous occasions, and due to being unable to support my weight I find it difficult to get back on my feet after a fall. There have been times where I have had to wait for hours until my teenage daughter returns home to help me up. As my daughter is a full-time college student, I am left in the house alone until she returns in the evening. I can hardly believe I am the same person I was (it seems just like yesterday). Adding to these symptoms is the weakness and unsteadiness in my hands which can be seen visibly shaking. Now I am hardly able to hold a pen to write a letter never mind a word, sentence or my signature.

In my case the prescription medications offered to me by my MS consultants do not help me at all and have manifested horrific side effects including, Alopecia, deterioration of my vision, skin rashes and the likes. I have spent a lot of money seeking natural alternatives, and in the hopes of me becoming more independent, family have helped where they can and disability allowance has allowed me to be able to purchase a wheeled walker and mobility scooter.

During my research I discovered Oxygen Therapy, an inhalation therapy used by those who are ill as well as healthy people looking to improve and regulate all vital body functions, such as breathing, metabolism and hormone balance. The benefit of Oxygen Therapy includes:

-          Improved blood flow

-          Elimination of headaches and tension

-          Normalization of sleep patterns

-          More efficient cardio output

-          Enhanced physical performance

-          Reduced frequency and duration of pain

MS effects the oxygen level in the brain lowering it. Lack of oxygen to the brain damages the cells produced within the brain and reduces its delivery within the brain. Patients with Multiple Sclerosis also usually show low percentages of normal red blood cells. Oxygen therapy addresses the underlying cause of many of the symptoms of MS by providing increased delivery of oxygen to the cells.

I have travelled to another city to attend an MS Therapy Centre where I received Oxygen Therapy for several weeks and have felt the positive benefits of the Oxygen, especially with my breathing.

The therapy involved entering a tank with portholes, along with several others, sitting down with an oxygen mask placed over the mouth and nose. One would take deep breaths blowing in and out into the mask. You will be in the oxygen tank for around 1 hour and 30 minutes. Most people inside the oval shape tank also suffered with MS, as well as other serious ailments. As the weeks proceeded I noticed that my breathing became a lot easier and I did not need to use my wheeled walker as much inside my home.

How will Funds help Marcia?

Unfortunately, the nearest MS Therapy Centre to me is around 15 miles away and when attending there I have had to travel by taxi, as I am unable to use the buses or trains. This journey has tired me as well as cost me a lot of money and continuous Oxygen Therapy treatment can be expensive. I am convinced that If I was blessed to have my own personal Oxygen Therapy unit its benefits will assist me to achieve and maintain maximum functional capacity in performing my daily activities considering my now diminished functional capacity. It would allow me a personalised treatment, in the comfort of my own home, where I would have the freedom and easy access to treat myself in my own time, as often as required, without having to make exhaustingly long, tedious and expensive journeys. I know that after some time of this therapy I will see positive results with my walking, coordination, muscle strength, balance and even my vision and ultimately regain independence, with renewed self-confidence within myself.

I have learned that the AIRNERGY PROFESSIONAL PLUS OXYGEN THERAPY UNIT pictured below works from the same principles as the equipment used at the MS Treatment Centre but it would be personal and at hand. This highly specialised home unit costs £4657 and would alleviate a lot of my concerns of the impending deterioration leading to chronic disability.

My appeal for funds to enable me to purchase this unit is sincere and true as it would be a blessing to be able to use this machine in the privacy of my home, which would ameliorate the physical and mental developmental effects of MS, the endless spasms in the muscles in both of my legs from weakness, and bone pains, especially in my knees, which are weak and inflamed from morning until night. As I am on benefits I am unable to afford the extremely high cost of this equipment. It cries out for help to address the expected onset of disability, daunting and uncontrollable, spontaneous symptoms of muscle weakness affecting my ability to stand for long, and walk, ultimately living with daily pain as well as robbing me of my independence.

IF YOU CAN PLEASE HELP ME TO REACH THE AQUIRED AMOUNT FINANCIALLY.

Yours truly, Marcia.
