Not All Cancer is Pink (Funeral & Memorial)

On September 2018, my beautiful mother Lucia Gonzalez complained about severe abdominal and back pain with no appetite , & excessive burping. After 3 different clinics seeing her they all said it was a stomach bacteria & she was prescribed Tramadol for pain and antibiotics for the stomach bacteria she was also recommended to exercise for back pain, she was told she had multiple cysts in her liver that will go away in its own & that was possibly the cause of her back pain. With hopes & faith we waited for a couple weeks to go by so meds can start taking affect and cysts could disappear. Nothing was working & pain meds ran out & nothing was controlling her pain  day & Night. Full of frustration seeing my mom in so much pain I rushed her to Elmhurst Hospital. They only did blood work and couldn’t run further tests due to her Immigration and insurance status. We got discharged immediately with more tramadol And a $700 bill. After a night or so tramadol wasn’t doing anything anymore, my mother the strongest & toughest women I know was now in tears & in so much pain. No doubt I rushed her to Loyola Hospital at 2am where she got admitted thanks to a ER doctor (our first angel) who pushed everything and everyone to admit her even though he wasn’t suppose to do that due to insurance policy. Well he made it happen my mom got admitted & they ran a lot of CT scans and MRIs & blood work. We were given the devastating news for the first time that all tests seemed to be leading to pancreatic cancer & those cysts weren’t really cysts they actually seemed like tumors. They submitted in the hospital as in-patient for an Endoscopic Biopsy to confirm the cancer. Few hours later after biopsy at Loyola we were given the bad news that the biopsy failed due to blockage through the pancreas passage & doctors weren’t able to get any sample. Few hours after procedure my mom was discharged from hospital due to insurance and immigration status. She was discharged because they legally & financially couldn’t proceed another biopsy Hospital Policies. My mother was discharged with a lot of morphine for pain, laxatives, & more tramadol and another $4,000 bill. Loyola Social Workers & Doctors suggested to take her to Cook County. Till this day after that traumatic moment I still strongly believe No human should ever be denied health care or left to die because of insurance or Immigration Status. The most hardest & angriest moment yet with a lesson I learned was seeing my mother with a big smile in her face & humble as can be, still after getting kicked out of Loyola she was thanking the Loyola doctors for everything they did for her and letting her stay in the hospital. I still don’t know anyone who is as noble and humble as my mother. Well Right after walking out of Loyola I rushed my mother to Cook County where they submitted her right away. Once again they ran tons of more tests. & Once again they gave us the devastating news it seemed to be Pancreatic Cancer but they needed the biopsy to confirm it. Few days later she got submitted for another Endoscopy Biopsy by Cook County. Unfortunately the biopsy once again failed due to a blocked that seemed to Cook County Loyola Caused it. Doctors tell me and my siblings by the looks of my mom she only had 3 months left to live and they needed another biopsy done. But If it was confirmed as cancer they couldn’t treat her with anything anymore due to her weakness and complications. Cook County Doctors told us they would only give her morphine and more stronger pain killers to make her comfortable till the end. Cook County scheduled her for a third biopsy which we weren’t so trusting about. Shocked and In disbelief, crushed & heart broken we walked away from Cook County not willing to put our mother through another heartache and disappointment of failed biopsy. With High hopes and faith in God hands we started searching for a 7th opinion. That’s when we found a Research Hospital in Minnesota Mayo Clinic. With no hesitation only Hope and Faith my mother taught me, myself and my mother moved to Minnesota where she got admitted to Mayo Clinic. Finally after 3 months of hell heartbreaks, disappointments & frustration she went through her 3rd and last successful biopsy called ERCP. Mayo Clinic diagnosed my mother with Pancreatic Cancer stage 4. Never in a million years I thought Cancer would or could hit my family. But still my mother doesn’t stop teaching me. Everyday I wake up to a new lessons and wise words. She still helps ME cope and have faith In God & helps me believe in him trust his will . She says I have big balls & that I’m tough and strong, but what she doesn’t know is that I’m only strong because of her she has taught me everything I am and keeps teaching me how to be strong till this very day. In January 8, 2019 once again the toughest strongest women I know started her first biggest battle....Chemo.... standing strong fighting to stay alive with Gods will and with all faith she is fighting to see her Grandkids grow. If there is any women in this world that always helped the needy even if she couldn’t afford to... it was her Lucia Gonzalez. If there was a single mother that worked her butt of to support her kids with no government or family support...it was her. If there was any women that cooked everyday fresh meals for her kids after those endless working hours... it was her. If there was any women that made sure her kids knew who God was through babtism, communion and confirmation... it was her. She Always taught us her kids respect, love, compassion, and forgiveness. My mother has always managed to do it all on her own and be the best mother/father grandmother/grandfather anyone could ask for, she didn’t plan or wanted to do it on her own but she did it. I’m not asking to help me I am asking you to help me give her my mother some piece of mind, love & support. This strong independent beautiful women needs some piece of mind so desperately Because even though she is very sick she still worries about her grown children & our finances and how we are going to be able to afford her medications, medical bills, and her future arrangements. I couldn’t be any more lucky to have such an amazing strong, independent selfless women as my mother. The least I can do for her is do what she did for me & give her a little break and let her be free. Every donation will be for Her, and her  peace of mind...
